SHARING LIFE STORIES

My father, Luiz Ubirajara was born in 1965, in São Paulo. He studied at Colegio Santa Cruz and now he is a doctor and teacher at USP.

One day, in 1993, a sailor called my father, saying that his boat named Neanderthal, had sunk, and he could only see the tip of the mast off water. Unfortunately, dad was traveling in United States, so he told his three brothers (Carlos Ubiratan, Ricardo Ubiraci e Roberto Ararê) and they went to Ubatuba  on the same day.

So, my uncles called two fishing boats and two divers to help them. Ubiratan and the other divers plunged and they put strings under the boat, so that the winch of the fishing boats  pull it out of the water. But the boat was very heavy for it. Then, they put empty floats and inflatable boats into the cabin and filled those floats under the water, making the boat get lighter.

The fishing boats pushed Neanderthal to the surface and they put a water pump, to remove the water from inside the boat. After that, they pushed it until it stuck in the sand (because if it had a hole in the hull, the boat could sink again) and continued removing water. Fortunately, there wasn’t any hole, so the boat could float again!

ABOUT ME

My name is Amanda, and I’m 13 years old. I’m medium height and I have straight brown hair and brown eyes too. I’m sometimes shy, specially when I meet new people, but with my friends, I’m very outgoing and talkative. I’m hard working, so when I have to do something, I do, but sometimes I’m very lazy.

I have a sister, Maísa. She’s very outgoing, clumsy and sportive. My parents are divorced and they are very hard working, talkative and friendly. My stepmother is hard working, friendly and funny. Like they, she is an “otorrinolaringologista” and I love them!

I love learning and discovering new things specially with my father. I love dancing ballet and jazz, playing sports and reading books. My favorite sport is handball, my favorite subject is Physical Education, and I love salad. I love music, and my favorite singer is Justin Bieber! I’m very active and busy, so I don’t like waiting and I usually hate when there’s nothing to do. I’m interests in medicine and I’d like to be a doctor.

At home, I have to clean my room and sometimes make my bed, but I don’t have to the dishes or take out the trash. I’m very talkative, but at school I must be quiet (but it’s almost impossible). Everybody mustn’t use the cellphone or eat during the classes. And I spend 5:30 hours at school.

I’m usually busy, because I have ballet and jazz classes twice a week, English classes and handball practice twice a week too, and therapy lessons.
I want to be a doctor and a teacher at USP (where I’d like to study). I want to do a pos graduation, a master degree and a PHD. I’d like to live in the USA with my aunt for some time, but I don’t know if I will go…
