SHARING LIFE STORIES
It all begins in the end of the 19th century, when José Maria
Lisboa, a well known journalist, one of the founders of A Província de São
Paulo, had to go to Viena, in Austria for a medical treatment. He made a long journey with his daughter,
Mercedes Lisboa.
José Maria Lisboa was treated by an important doctor and his youngest
son, also a doctor, called Walter Seng (my great great grandfather). After he
recovered, he planned the trip to Brazil. It was at this time that Walter Seng
decided to come together. You can already imagine what happened during the
transatlantic trip: Mercedes and Walter fell in love with each other. The
marriage took place in São Paulo, in 1901.
Five years passed, he had settled
himself in the city, and it was 1906 when the first x-ray machine arrived in
Brasil and was installed in his office at Rua Barão de Itapetiniga, downtown. Also in that year , Walter Seng
founded Hospital Santa Catarina with nun Beata Heinrich and Dom Miguel Kruse.
The hospital is still at the same place, at Avenida Paulista, 200.
Walter and Mercedes had for daughters and one son. My great grandmother,
Leonor Seng do Amaral, was born in 1914. If there hadn’t been that trip to
Viena, maybe I wouldn’t be around… But the thing is, Walter Seng died in1931,
due to the effects of the radiation, since at that time there was no kind of
protection in the x-ray sessions. He was 58 years.

All week I spend 5
hours working hard and studying for tests. After school I practice soccer,
judo, swimming and I do volunteer work. I don’t have to do any housework, but I
don’t mind clearing the table.
In the future I want to
be a soccer player or a marketing manager, I’d like to like to study at USP and
I want to live in London for 1 year to do a course at Harvard.
