Sharing Life Stories
My grandmother lived in a big city when she was
young, far apart from my grandfather, who lived in a small city in the interior
of Brazil. Of course they didn’t know each other, because this story is about
how they met.
My grandfather had gone to my grandmother’s city, to
go to a party. My grandma’s friends had dragged her and convinced her to go to
that same party (which she didn’t even want to go to) . It was a sort of “mug
party”, in which everyone receives a mug in the entrance (to fill up with
drinks during the party).
My grandfather, who had stopped dancing for a
minute, saw that my mother was standing in a corner, and looked lonely, so he
asked her to dance. My grandmother didn’t want to dance with anybody, so she
said:
--- I can’t,
I have to hold my mug.
So my grandfather said:
---
That’s no problem!
And pulled out a handkerchief, ripped it in half,
tied one end to my grandmother’s mug and the other one to her skirt.
After that, my grandmother couldn’t refuse an offer
to dance, so they danced, and danced, and danced, and, even after my
grandpa had left town, they kept in
touch, through letters, and, sometimes, visits. Eventually, and fortunately,
they got married! Today, my grandparents have many grandchildren who hear this romantic story about how they met!
About Me
My name is Miranda, but I like being called as Mica or
Mi, and my family calls me Mimi. I am 13 years old, I turned 13 in the sixth of
July.
I’m not very tall, but I think I have a good height.
I’m very anxious and outgoing, and my sister says I’m really talkative! Sometimes,
I’m a little clumsy…
I LOVE cats, I’m obsessed with TV
shows and I can’t live without my family. My favorite actors are Johnny
Depp, Orlando Bloom and Helena Bonham Carter. My favourite movie is The Lord of
the Rings (I’m completely addicted to it!). I
HATE carrots and I can’t stand
spiders. I’m just too afraid of them! I don’t like Geography very much, but I’m
really into Arts and Music. I’m interested in singing, dancing and acting. When
I grow up, I want to be a singer in Broadway.
At home,
I have to make my bed and lie the table, but I don’t have to wash the dishes or
tidy my room. I also mustn’t play with my dog inside the house. At school, I
don’t have to wear a uniform, but in
P.E. days, I do. I mustn’t talk
in class or cheat on tests, but I must do my homework (even though I don’t find
it very fair).
During
the week, I spend, more or less, six hours doing homework; six hours doing
extra activities (English and drama classes); 25 hours in school and one hour
doing housework.
In the
future, I want to move to New York with my two friends: Stephanie and Luiz
Felipe. Luiz is going to be an actor. Me and Stephanie are going to apply to
NYCDA (The New York Conservatory for the Dramatic Arts), a Dramatic Arts
college. There, you dance, you sing, and most important:
You act!
